Claire has also spotted symbols for her daddy everywhere--little tokens that remind her of him. Here are just a few. The first one Claire spied on a telephone pole outside side the grocery store, Dave calls this his "mother's milk" and is often, much to my chagrin, spotted with one in hand. When she saw it she excitedly yelled out, "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!!!"

The second symbol, Claire spotted in the grocery store again accompanied by a "Daddy" chorus of squeals. Dad's deodorant has become one of Claire's favorite toys. She likes to rummage through the bathroom drawers, clutch onto the deodorant with a monkey-like vice grip and then run like mad, knowing that I will chase her before she gets even a nibble out of the appealing blue surface.

The third token of Dad was adopted after Dave tore down a 19th century family home that was on his parent's property with a track hoe. I took Claire out to see Dave run the track hoe several times and she even got a ride on it. After Dave left town, I was in the backyard with her at my dad's house and she saw a track hoe in a lot a few yards down and for 15 minutes called out for dad in her perfectly perfect daddy singsong while waving her hands.
Unfortunately, my little daddy's girl does not have any symbols for "Mawh" yet, but I am sure when she adopts them it will be something really exciting like toilet bowl cleaner, or broccoli, or maybe even dental floss.

This post made me smile so big. What a darn cute daddy's girl! And what she identifies with her dad is the best part. Kyle is right. Dave is quite the manly man to have her daughter identify him with a track hoe :)
Haha! This was so cute! I'm sure if Dave took her out without you present, she'd associate plenty of symbols with "Mawh." :)
i love how you described it to us. You help us visualize the scene very well, especially her taking Dave's deoderant.
Like "chrissie" said, I'm sure there are some things she identifies with you when you are not in her presence.
Somehow children take their mothers for granted. It is almost like they are an extension of themselves. At least that is how I always rationalized that their first word was always Daddy and they always burst into joy whenever he walked into the room. Just like I told Melissa on her blog - there is NOTHNG quite like a daddy and his little girl. It is so wonderful that you enjoy it as much as he does and that you are not threatened by it. You are an awesome mother to a remarkable little girl and a wonderful wife to a deserving and loving husband.
Very cute....love that the deoderant and the tractor are #2 and #3.
Sounds to me like Claire, has lerned from shear desire how to find her dad when he isn't there, love the things he loves, and wants to please him even in the way she addresses him. Sounds like a great pattern for a healthy Father (with a capital F) daughter relationship.
So cute. Abbi is the same way. She loves her daddy so much that she sometimes calls me daddy and then realizes what she said and corrects herself. It’s especially sad that I don't exist when her dad is around.
We enjoyed so much having you here on Saturday, Tara. Your little Clair is going to keep you busy beyond the normal it appears. I'm exhausted watching her. Michael was totally enchanted with her. He kept telling us the next day how cute she was and all the trouble she was getting into like putting a penny in her mouth. He was worried about that. You need a 6 year old to follow her around.
Smart girl. I can hear the two different parent calls perfectly, so funny.
I'm picturing Dave right now on a back hoe with a Pepsi in hand sweating through his Old Spice.
Aw!!! Claire Bear most certainly has things that remind her of you. I'm sure of it. It's just hard to leave her long enough to find out, right? I think when we saw her after Turkey, (when you were still on your way home,) she came straight to me because I reminded her of you.
