In case you haven't already heard, it's official, we are packing our bags and moving to California. Dave accepted a new job in Palm Springs this week. After eight and a half years, Dave and I are excited for a new opportunity, but ever so sad to be leaving New York and especially all of our friends here. I can't say enough how much we will miss this crazy city and our life here. It is strange to think we will be leaving behind the city where we officially became independant adults. We made careers here, met here, had Claire here and along the way amassed an amazing circle of friends who inspire, challenge and stick by us through think and thin.
Somehow, even after an almost decade in the city, we feel like we are abandoning ship and keep asking ourselves if we are at the point where we can say "If we can make it here, we'll make it anywhere". Dave compares leaving New York to leaving behind a jilted lover. As he describes it, the City has a living feel to it. It is so much more than just a dot on the map, but the City has an attitude, a point of view, and we are not quite sure where she stands on our departure. To attempt one more time to gain her favor, over the next month we are going to share with you our top ten most memorable moments in NYC. We hope you enjoy them and just know how much we enjoyed having each experience in this great place.

I am so excited for you to come closer to the family but it will be sad to leave the ones that you have become so close to you in New York. What a great idea to blog 10 memories, i will wait with baited breath to read each one. Can't wait to see you and my baby Clair.
We are so sad you are leaving but hey at least you have a lot of friends who can put you up when you come visit.
Boo!!!!!!!
It's times like this that I am grateful for blogs.. and email, and digital photos...so we can (hopefully) hear about how life and the transition to Cali is for you guys. I know you like to write about more general topics, but perhaps you can humor us once in a while with something a bit more personal?
We'll miss you, but I can tell this is a good thing for you guys... I sense the peace. And like it or not, we're dropping by next time we are in Palm Springs. :) What a beautiful destination!
Can't wait to read about your most memorable moments in Manhattan.
Congratulations on your new job! It's always a crazy time when you have big changes and moves and stuff. But it's also exciting. Good luck!
WOW! Congrats! If you pass through Missouri on your way we would love to see you!
Oh Tara. Brad just told me yesterday. For me I have to say 'so soon!?' because it seems I'm just getting to know you. But I have to say California sounds wonderful and I'm sure you'll fit right in. Congratulations to Dave!
Also when do you go?
Congratulations! How exciting, but so sad to leave NY. Dan and I tried--and within a year we were back in Queens.
Enjoy the sun!
Leaving NYC? For some reason I didn't think you guys would leave the City. Palm Springs is going to be an interesting change... the weather, the people, California (I know you've lived there, but it has been awhile).
If you pass through Colorado you're more than welcome to stay with us; we have plenty of room for the 3 of you.
I am so happy for you guys, but so sad to see you go. The Thatchers will definitely be missed by all. And next winter when everyone is freezing to death here, you'll be with Clair at the pool and Dave will be on the golf course. Not a bad life!
Oh Tara, How exciting for you! And your mother will be thrilled to get you closer and me too. Mike and I moved around a number of times until Beau was 7. I cherish all the experiences and people from different areas of California and Florida where we lived. But in the end if Mike and I are together location doesn't matter much. I know that is true of you and Dave.
Just the other day I was walking with Sydney down 89th and ran in to Dave. He was talking to this elderly couple, and had them laughing about something (big surprise, right?). As I approached, Dave said hello to me and started to make faces and coo at Sydney. Just then the older gentleman suggests that Dave needs to be the new mayor of NY since ne knows everyone.
So I guess what I'm saying is this: Don't leave. Stay. Be our Mayor and First Lady (?). You guys are so incredibly loved around here, and you've made an indelible mark on the city, and the people you've influenced for good. Plus, if you leave, who else will entertain me during RS? Now that Claire is mobile, it is all the more fun!
We will sure miss you guys...who will Levi marry now?
I'm SO thrilled you're coming to the West Coast!!! Don't think we're not counting down the days until you're all in our state! But my heart breaks a little for you at having to leave NY. It won't be so hard at first-- you'll see. You'll suddenly have new jobs, new vehicles, new expanses of space for less rent, new Targets, new Costcos, clean Rite Aids, helpful service people, a driveway... and all those annoyances of big city living will be gone. But, I fear, as it was with me, every once in a while you'll see someone's blog about a crazy day in NY, or you'll be watching a movie that pans an old neighborhood haunt and you'll suddenly get really, really sad. (And then you'll know it's time to go back for a visit... or at least call me to cry.) You'll always have NY. 8.5 years is the better part of a decade-- lots of memories to hold on to. The city will miss you. You'll miss the city-- but it'll always be with you in some small part, and it's Claire's native city, so you'll always have your own little New Yorker to remind you how much you heart NY.
Ditto.
Congrats and condolences. What an exciting place to go! What a wonderful place to leave behind.
Ditto to what Laurel said.
Can't wait to read the most memorables...I will most likely tear up.
Good luck getting ready to move!
Obviously I haven't checked blogs in a few days. What surprising news! I completely understand the emotions that come with leaving NYC. I'm still torn over our decision to leave. If only we could be in two places at once. But, since California is closer to Utah than NYC, I'm happy to hear of your plans.
Uh....the answer is NO!
Ummm... I do NOT support this move. I know that I hardly ever see you guys, but I do sleep better at night knowing you are only a cab ride away, not a cross country flight.
That being said, I LOVE my eight years of memories with Tara and Dave. From gossip with Tara at ABC, to dinner parties with new babies- you both have been wildly influential in my NYC experience.
LOVE YOU BOTH!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!
Jenn told me the news the other week...I am agog! With as much well wishing as I can muster with this news I say, "Congrats". I know, I know, I'm being selfish and wish I could exude more enthusiasm when I say, "I am sure this will be a rewarding experience for you both". In truth, I am not with those who are enthusiastic about your exodus.
I am really gonna miss you both and look forward to visiting you in another town. I will warn you that with a move like this the stay may be longer than a weekend!
I can't believe you're actually moving! You two are just about my only constants left in NYC. To think you won't be around when I come for a visit at the end of May...so sad! When does the big move take place? Good luck!
We are happy you decided to move back to the Sunny state. I am sure it is hard to leave, but it will be fun having family close to us. Welcome, welcome!
