I figured this out with Claire one night when she was two months old. She was awake for a 2am feed. I was falling asleep nursing her and couldn't wait to go back to bed. When she finished eating she wasn't ready to sleep, but instead wanted to frolic. I weighed my options: I could let her cry it out, or I could stay up with her in her wee hour happy hour. I decided to stay up with Claire and as I roused myself to play with her, a sudden gush of love for Claire filled my heart. Then it hit me--my love for my child grows exponentially when I serve her. Any service works, but service when it is hardest to give works best. The more I push myself out of my comfort zone and chose the needs of my child over my own, the more I am rewarded by love for them. Duh! I am sure most mom's figure this out before they are even a mom, but that night it was a revelation to me.

I love Baby K's smiles. You just have to look her direction and she has a big happy grin for you. She is so so sweet!
Tara, I love, love, love reading your posts! You're such an eloquent writer, I love how you put things, I can always relate or in this case, aspire and take note of your awesome "momness"!!!
Your girls are adorable and growing up so fast. Maybe your girls, our boys, 20+ years from now, a marriage or two perhaps :) ?!
Miss you guys, we need to get together again! You guys heading to Logan for any of the summer?
Tara, I heard you share this thought at a baby shower once and even then it made me cry. This is probably some of the best life advice, not just parenting advice I have ever received and I have never given you a proper thank you for it.
You are amazing and your girls are so lucky!
That is EXACTLY how it works with me!!! but the way you explain it sounds alot better!!
Thank you Tara. I admire you so much as a mother, honestly, and I love your writing too.
Isn't it amazing how much love we develop over time...it makes me wonder how we can ever give them up when they are older.
These last two posts made me teary. I love hearing how happy your beautiful family is. We miss you all!
Those little giggles, smiles and hugs make it all worth it. They just know how to melt your heart. So sweet!
Beautifully said! Perhaps that is why Christ loves each of us so much. There is a touch of the divine in that kind of love.
Thanks. I needed that insight today.
