Today was a long day, so long in fact that I left for work at 8:30am and at 8:30pm had still not returned home. I worried all day that I wouldn't get home in time to see baby C off to sleep. After putting in a full day at the office preparing for our annual audit that starts on Monday, two co-workers and I went to scout out the location for our foster parent appreciation event on Friday and then went shopping for the raffle gift baskets. Generally, I love shopping, but when you haven't seen your wee one in a full day it can be pretty burdensome. I called Dave while I was shopping to let him know that I wasn't going to be home for a bit. A half and hour later, I got a call from Dave who was in the South Bronx looking for me. He had Claire in tow and had come to pick me up.
Now, I understand to the rest of the world just picking up your spouse would not seem like a big deal, however, to elucidate how big of a deal this is let me explain some fundamentals on NYC parking. Rule #1: When you have a good spot, do not leave it until you have to leave it (which generally means every other day at 11am right before it has to be moved for the street sweeper). Note: all driving activities must be scheduled around this time slot for the sake of personal sanity. Rule #2: Do not cross Eddie. Eddie is our neighbor/personal parker. He makes a living off of parking people's cars on our street. For the last few months, Eddie has inexplicably began moving our car to the most coveted spots on our street. This helps him out because he can reserve two spots with our van and then he pulls it forward when he needs the spot for his own car. Rule #3: When you take your car out for a carefully planned spin, do not bring it back after 10pm. There are simply no spots on the street after 10pm. None, not one.
Tonight, Dave broke all three cardinal rules. He moved the car which means he'll now have to fight for a spot tomorrow morning (at times it literally is a fight), he crossed Eddie (at risk of losing our favored status) and he spent the next hour after picking me up trying to find a spot on the street. All this so I could have a quiet, warm ride home and some important time with the Wee. So today these are just a few of the reasons why I heart Dave.

Despite my disappointment with Dave's latest restaurant choice in Utah, I would heart Dave after that too. The new pictures of Claire on the blog make me extra sad I didn't get a chance to see her when you were in SLC. Next time--she's adorable!
BIG points for Dave! So very sweet. Hope you enjoyed your time with Little C. Love the pictures of you guys on your sidebar too.
That's huge. Only other New Yorkers and former NYers know how huge that is. HUGE. And in the South Bronx to boot! Go Dave!
Now that is true love...
way to go Dave!
How sweet! He might need to give Nate a few pointers. :)
I have to admit that brought a welling to my eyes. I didn't think male Thatchers paid attention to the details. It just reminded me that sometimes they do catch on, show their softer side, definitely get it right. Have Dave call Mark ASAP- he needs a refresher course.
What a sweet guy! You sure are a lucky woman (and Dave's a lucky guy, too)!
Here Here! Triple points for the great brother-in-law. Way to go Dave!
What a sweet thing to do, good job Dave. Cute little clair needs to come back to Utah soon so I can kiss those sweet cheeks. lOve ya!
